On the 7th of July, 1896, the Lumiere Brothers exhibited what was proclaimed as “the miracle of the century”
- a new visual medium called cinema, at the Watson Hotel (a.k.a. Esplanade Mansion), Bombay.
India’s first full length film was made by Dadasahed Phalke (a.k.a. the father of Indian cinema).
Film Raja Harishchandra in 1913 was a silent film in Marathi.
India’s very first talkie Alam Ara made by Ardeshir Irani was released on March 14th 1931.
